Your Year-End Gift Can Create a Safe Space for Teens

As we approach the end of the year — a season of reflection, generosity, and community — we wanted to share a program that is especially meaningful to us at Joyful Art Center.

We are launching a Creative Teen Hangout, a monthly, low-pressure creative space designed just for teens. This is not a traditional art class. It’s a creative third space — not school and not home — where teens can relax, create, and connect in a welcoming, judgment-free environment.

Each hangout includes a process-based art project that allows for creative freedom, along with open studio time, snacks, music, and supportive adult facilitators who understand the unique needs of teens. The focus is on self-expression, connection, and belonging — not perfection.

Many teens today are feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or disconnected. This program was created to meet that need gently and intentionally.

Joyful Art Center is now a nonprofit organization, which allows us to expand access to arts programming and offer experiences like the Creative Teen Hangout through community support. Many people are just learning this, as we operated differently in years past. Becoming a nonprofit allows us to prioritize access, well-being, and community impact, and donations to Joyful Art Center are tax-deductible.

Thanks to a generous $250 donation, we are able to offer our first Creative Teen Hangout at a reduced cost, making it accessible to more families. We are deeply grateful for this early support.

Our goal is to expand this program to additional Sundays each month, reaching more teens who would benefit from a safe, creative space. To do that, we are seeking community sponsors and year-end donors to help cover supplies, snacks, staffing, and studio time.

As a nonprofit, Joyful Art Center is able to partner with local businesses in meaningful ways that support youth creativity, community connection, and accessibility.

How You Can Support the Creative Teen Hangout

If you are interested in sponsoring a Creative Teen Hangout or would like to learn more, we would love to connect.

Thank you for believing in creativity, connection, and community — and for helping us make art accessible for all.

With gratitude,
