Invitation for Teens: Be Part of a Special Community Art Exhibit

Hello Joyful Art Center Families,

We have a unique and meaningful opportunity we would love to invite our teens to be part of.

Joyful Art Center has been collaborating on a special project called “Squares of Connection,” a community art initiative that brings together artists from different spaces across Vacaville to explore the themes of identity, community, and connection.

This project includes:
• Teens from the Solano Youth Achievement Center
• Artists participating in a prison arts program at California Medical Facility
• Teen members of the Joyful Art Center community

Each artist creates an individual 10" x 10" piece, and together, the artwork is assembled into larger panels that represent how individual voices come together to create a shared story.

Important note: While this project includes artwork created through a prison arts program, those artists will not be present at the classes or the exhibition. The collaboration is through the artwork itself, allowing for connection across different lived experiences in a thoughtful and respectful way.

Teen Participation Details

We will be offering a free 2-session workshop for teens to create their piece for the exhibit:

Wednesday, March 25 | 6:00–8:00 PM
Wednesday, April 1 | 6:00–8:00 PM

Participants will:
• Create their own 10" x 10" artwork
• Explore personal symbols and the theme of community
• Have their work displayed in a public exhibition at the Vacaville Museum

Exhibit Opening Night: Thursday, April 16; 5:30-7🕒

This is a powerful opportunity for teens to:
• Be part of a meaningful, community-based art project
• Have their work exhibited in a museum
• Contribute to a larger story about connection, growth, and belonging

If your teen would like to participate, please sign them up and we will reserve their spot.

We would love to include them in this special project. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at cristie@joyfulartcenter.org

Hi Joyful Art Community, We have something really special coming up… and we’d love for you to be part of it. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working on a collaborative project called Squares of Connection — and it’s one of those experiences that reminds us why art matters so much. Each piece in the show is a small square created by someone in our community. On its own, each one tells a story. But together, they become something much bigger, a visual reminder of connection, creativity, and...

I wanted to share something close to my heart that we’ve been working on at Joyful Art Center and personally invite you to be part of it. What started years ago as a few kids around my dining room table has grown into something much bigger than I ever expected. Not just in size, but in purpose. Over time, I’ve seen how powerful art can be. Not just as a creative outlet, but as a way for people to feel seen, to process experiences, and to connect with one another in ways that words sometimes...
